The following is a report of happenings for the 2009 International Sport and Culture Festival is up to date regarding progress and planning for the 2009 International Sport and Culture Festival.

AUGUST 2007
Created new 2009 Slet Booth, sent representation to USAG Congress in San Jose, CA. Passed out Post Cards and info about 2009 Slet. Met with National Travel Service about questions in booking event. 2009 Slet Meeting held in Fort Worth

JULY 2007
Met with Dean Thompson advisory for major Sponsorship of 2009 Slet. Discussion of several donors and strategies. Estimated Budget produced for sponsor solicitation. Members represented in Austria during World Gymnastrada. Contacts and made for participation by other foreign groups.

JUNE 2007
Continual promotion of 2009 Slet. Slet Meeting. Promotional Posters and T-shirts made for distribution at 2007 Sokol USA Slet in Pittsburg, PA. 2009 Slet Promotional booth display and Talon the Falcon transported to Slet generated much interest enthusiasm for the future event. Drawing and sculpting contests held.

MAY 2007
Approval of promotional Nazdar Y’all Shirts “We’ll see you in Texas” to be distributed in Pennsylvania.

APRIL 2007
Slet Meeting held at Sokol Dallas. Discussion for attendance at Sokol USA Slet. 

MARCH 2007
Slet Fund raiser Key person interview. Special Olympics representative agreed to participate in some form. GAT also agreed to participate in some form.

JANUARY 2007
Slet Meeting named Mary Steinman as appointed Financial Secretary for 2009 Slet. Continued discussions with USAG Tumbling and Trampoline and with USAG Acro.

OCTOBER 2006
The Committee began development of a time line for the next phases of Slet preparation. A list of target areas, activities and supplies is being made for possible sponsorships. Met with FWVCB and Convention Center Director for a walk through of all areas of the Center that is on our contract. Met and had lunch with Renaissance representative to sign a contract for an additional 200 blocked rooms. Discussions continue on the needs of the USAG groups that may join the Slet. Slet Committee will meet on Thursday to review contracts and update plans. Packets will be prepared for presentation to National BOI in New York.

 

SEPTEMBER 2006

American Sokol booth and SLET plans presented to Gymnastics Association of Texas Board members. GAT will have interest in participation at some capacity. Slet Committee met with FWCCVB on September 6th and signed letter of intent as well as Blocked 400 rooms for Omni Hotel. Slet committee will soon name key people to chair next level of preparations for Slet Plans. 

 

AUGUST 2006

Southern District commissioned a free-standing Slet 2009 Display booth for marketing, advertising and general information about the upcoming Slet. The booth can easily be set up and can be manned by one or two individuals easily. Booth was used at SPJST Youth Activity Day to promote relationship of the organizations. The Booth will again be used in the exhibit area of the Gymnastics Association of Texas (GAT) Gathering on Labor Day Weekend in Austin, Texas. A Presentation to the GAT Board is scheduled for August 31st. Due to the recent change of 2009 Slet dates it is expected that GAT and SPJST will now have less of an opportunity to Host their events in conjunction with the 2009 Slet. Preliminary discussions and contacts have already been made to shoot proposals to several interested groups, such as USAG Acro Gymnastics Championships, USAG Tumbling and Trampoline Championships, USAG Rhythmic Championships, Pan-American Games Union Group Gymnastics Championships and the Federation of International Gymnastics Group Competitive Championships. Already groups from Europe and the Czech Republic have been in Contact and are beginning planning phases to attend. 

 

JULY 2006

POST Cards were distributed to many American Sokol members attending the COS Slet in Prague. Many formal and informal invitations were extended to foreign participants in Prague. The Slet Post Cards were a welcome item and quickly became a collectors Item. All Post cards will be offered on the Slet2009.com website in bulk numbers of 100s to units Districts or Individuals.

 

JUNE 2006

Slet committee met at the Southern District Slet to review recent information. Southern District to purchase 2009 Slet post cards. Committee authorized three 2009 American Sokol Slet 2009 Post Card Designs to be reproduced for distribution before the COS Slet on Prague. The Designs were images that reflected the Western character and Longhorn Theme of Fort Worth. Two additional designs were created by individual members to add to the selection of the cards.

 

MAY 2006

Issues arose with dates of the Convention Center availability. Three meetings were held in discussion and review of previous leaser of the July dates. After lengthy attempts the FWCC was unable to guarantee the Previously set July dates for the Slet. Alternative dates were discussed which would return the Slet to the traditional dates of American Sokol Slet in the third week of June.

 

APRIL 2006

Meeting with FWCVB and Helms Briscoe at 9AM.

Tour of all Downtown Hotel locations view rooms, ballrooms and additional facilities. Arrangements for all contracts on schedule.

Met with Omni Hotel general Manager charge of operations over lunch. Saw Artist renderings of the Hotel to begin construction Summer of 2006. Spectacular Facility. Expected to be named the Host Hotel.

Met with Minor league Fort Worth Cats Baseball Team General Manager. Tour of Graves Field as possible location for National Archery Tournament.

Sunday meeting to meet with Downtown Fort Worth Business groups.

 

MARCH 2006

Sent formal Email invitation to Gymnastics Association of Texas, SPJST and USAG Group Gymnastics. Each of these organization must make appropriate changes to their current events schedules well in advanced.

Received verbal acknowledgement from each of the invited organizations that it is reasonable and probable that they will be included.

Arranged meeting with FWCVB and Helms Briscoe scheduled for April 3rd

 

FEBUARY 2006

Contacted several Video producers and companies to create 8 minute video. None selected at this time.

 

JANUARY 2006

Created  renderings of FWCC floor plans  that were color coded for easy viewing. Each page represents the proposed daily plan for each invited Organization.

 

DECEMBER 2005

Spoke with Fort Worth Public Schools regarding Archery, Farrington field and permits for any possible pyrotechnics.

Kept communications open with FWCVB and scheduled April date for Final Hotel Contracts

 

NOVEMBER 2005

Southern District formally elected first 2009 Slet Committee members:

Rome Milan (Chairman), Bob Podhradsky and Jerry Milan

Received list of outdoor archery sights from FWCVB

Request for Video production service for possible development of promotional video.

Continue contact with Sister organizations for possible invitations to 2009 Sokol Slet

 

OCTOBER 2005

Made presentation at National SOKOL BOI Conference in Chicago

Handed out FWCVB Packets

Discussed archery needs for outdoor vs indoor Championships

 

SEPTEMBER 2005

Received Software from FWCC to design floor plan use

Preliminary Negotiations of Hotel Space and locations.

Worked with FWCVB to create packet

Received seven hotel bids room rates and comp room policies

Spoke with Texas Falconry group for possible bookings

Spoke with Promotional indoor RC Blimp service for possible bookings

Spoke with USAG for Exhibit Hall and Vender contacts

 

AUGUST 2005

Initiated dialogue with other organizations such as: SPJST, Gymnastics Association of Texas, USA Gymnastics Group Gymnastics Chairman to solicit enthusiasm for the event, North Texas Archery Assoc.

Bob Podhradsky, Jerry Milan and Rome Milan met at Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau with Helms Briscoe, Fort Worth Convention Center and the Bureau for meeting and tour of facility

Met with Charles Mayer Director of Convention sales, Public Events Dept of FWCC

Dates of July 7th to 13th were made available

JULY 2005

Held preliminary meeting with Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau

Held meeting with negotiating service Helms Briscoe.

Isolated dates of Availability

Discussions of inviting Sister organizations for better promotion of event as well as to better the relations between them.

 

JUNE 2005

District utilized “Talon” the Sokol Mascot, and promotional T-shirts, bandanas, flags, badges and hats were handed out.

Spoke with Promotional Balloon service for possible manufacture of large Sokol Talon Mascot for advertising

 

APRIL 2005

District made plans for progressive promotion at 2005 AS Slet in Chicago

Visited Promotional Supply store for Ideas

Rome Milan and Lori Laznovsky toured Fort Worth with Alan Duda, USAG Travel director viewed Hotels and

Gaylord Texan Hotel Convention Center. Also viewed Farrington Field.
